Each year champions are crowned at the Breeders Cup, 306 total in 33 years.  The races this year will take place at the beautiful Del Mar Race Track in California.  And the real GOOD NEWS!  There are now new gambling laws. Paying taxes on a pick 4 that paid $300 on a .50 Ticket, under old rules (declaring profits over 600-1). See the old rules, did not account for the price of the Pick 4 ticket, it now does. Now it will take a lot more for a $40 pick 4 ticket, to require declaring winnings at the tax window. However, with this Late Pick 4 pool and possible jumbo prize, your not gonna be complaining if you fall into that category either. The 4 races I will be focusing on are races 6, 7, 8, and 9 for Friday.  Check back tomorrow for Saturday’s picks, and look for more Pick 4 Ponies plays during horse racing season. Delmar Race 6  Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Mile (Turf)-Purse 1,000,000

Keys :  Deep race, I have no clear favorite. Here are the 6 that can all win this race. #2 Happily 9-2  a shipper with a record of 4 wins, 1 place, in 6 starts on turf. #7 Capla Temptress 6-1  won with jockey Joel Rosario, last time out at Woodbine. #8 Significant Form 8-1 has looked good in her 2 wins vs weaker competition. #10 September 6-1 shipper that just missed in her G1 in Great Britain. #11 Rushing Fall 7-2 with jockey Javier Castellano has been perfect 2 for 2. #13 Juliet Capulet 12-1 has to be included, after beating Capla Temptress in August. Followed up by a win at a 9-1 price. Could be an even bigger pay day today.

Delmar Race 7  Las Vegas Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile-Purse 1,000,000

Keys#8 Accelerate 7-2 has a great jockey/trainer combo with Espinoza/Sadler. The distance might be just right for him to get the lead and win. Another horse where the 1 mile will help is #9 Battle of Midway 10-1, struggled late at 1 1/8 last time. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer , I will take a shot on him here. # 3 Sharp Aztecha 9-2 has won easy last 2 starts. Hasn’t been challenged, since his race with Mor Spirit in June.

Dangerous: #6 More Spirit 3-1, Mike Smith/ Bob Baffert combo, can win this race, if in good form. Hasn’t raced since June 10th at Belmont. Won big then.

Delmar Race 8  Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Mile (Turf)-Purse 1,000,000

Keys : Your gonna have to take a gamble here. A lot of these horses have beat each other before. I’m taking a few that I think are just better. #6 Masar 9-2 has won before with jockey William Buick. #7 James Garfield 6-1 has a lifetime record of 2-2-1 on turf.  #9 Encumbered 15-1 has had to 2 bad races on dirt, throw them out. Other 2 races both wins on turf.

Delmar Race 9  Longines Distaff Breeders’ Cup 1 1/8 Mile-Purse 2,000,000

Likes: #1 Champagne Room 15-1 won last race at even longer distance on Sept.17.  Breeders’s Cup champion last year with Gutierrez as well. #4 Abel Tasman 4-1 had an awkward start on Sept. 23rd, but still fought back gamely. With Smith as his jockey, he also beat #5 Elate 3-1 in July at Saratoga. Both Abel and Elate should be battling at the top again. I will be using these 3 as a clear difference from the public.

Avoid#2 Stellar Wind 5-2 is a favorite, in a very tough race. Jockeyed by Victor Espinoza, good history at Delmar, but hasn’t raced since July 30th. Too many good horses, who have good recent form and better odds. Same goes for #6 Forever Unbridled 4-1, last race August 17. #7 Paradise Woods 9-2 looks like a solid play, but the distance is too long.

My ticket for the Late Pick 4, depending on my bankroll. Will look like this: 2 7 8 10 11 13/ 3 8 9 / 6 7 9 / 1 4 5 for .50 = $81, little pricey but would yield a huge return.

Best of luck with the ponies. Let’s get to the tax window!
