Remember a few years ago when the Patriots had an early season embarrassing loss on national TV to the Chiefs, and everyone (including myself unfortunately) decided Tom Brady was washed and his career was over? Here’s a summary of what followed. You can read text books, verbalize your thoughts, simulate situations, but the only way you truly gain an understanding of this world is through experience. Through our experience in life we discover two certainties–death and taxes. Through our experience in football we also uncover two fundamental principles that are nonnegotiable–don’t fuck with the Patriots or Nick Saban. It is the former that I will be using in pursuit of my dream to retire in my 30s, and live off my week two Draft Kings winnings. Please join me in celebrating below.

Week 1 Recap

What can I say? Last week was a dumpster fire–no cashes in any projected lineups. But I guess that’s why God invented week two. Who knew the key to high place finishes in week one was a Detroit Lions stack featuring Kenny “Hotel Motel” Golladay Inn and some guy named Tarik Cohen? The great Dr. Jake Houseman said it best…

The Pats Filet Lineup

Lots of tender cuts here highlighted by a juicy Brady to Cooks double up potential in Cook’s return to New Orleans for his revenge game. One nugget I like to keep an eye on is players who did not score the prior week who project to have roughly 8-9 touchdowns on the season. The law of averages eventually kicks in and they’re going to get theirs which is why I like Beast Mode this week. I generally will cut spending at tight end and defense to purchase some extra red meat at wideout and running back. The 49ers make for decent flier against a Seahawk offensive line that looked awful against Green Bay, and likely will need more than a week to shore that garbage up.

The Patriots Stacks

Would it surprise you if New England put up five to six offensive scores this week? Me neither. This is a lineup you want to have assembled when they do to ensure you’re credited with all those lovely points. I am not ruling out playing James White or Rex Burkhead along side what appears to be entrenched goal line back Mike Gillislee. With Danny Amendola’s playing status up in the air for Sunday, there has been rumblings that Burkhead could see time in the slot. And I wouldn’t put anything past Belichick when it comes to his running back rotations.

Playing both Patriot running backs opens up some interesting plays at the flex position with high floors and filet type upside. Bryant has scored 11 of his 14 career touchdowns at the friendly home confines of Hines Field. After a quiet week one, Bryant is a nice breakout candidate in week two who will likely not be priced this low for long. Along with New England, Las Vegas projects the Packers tilt in Atlanta to be the highest scoring affair in week two. Don’t forget, Adams broke out in a huge way last year opposite a healthy Jordy Nelson with career highs in almost all categories including 12 touchdowns. In last years 33-32 loss in Atlanta, Davante posted a 12 catch effort on 14 targets–just scrumptious. The price to acquire the fourth year wideout’s services also is likely to see an increase in the coming weeks.

I had a similar feeling in my visit to the DMV this week…

The Roast Chicken Lineup

In case the narrative of the Patriots demise is true and Brady is washed up, I will allocate my capital a little more judiciously over each position in other lineups. My roast chicken lineup is where the focus is to rely more on playing guys with high floors and stud upside without having large cap obligations to one of the filet players. This week the main course features Famous Jameis at quarterback along with mouth watering Packer side dishes in Ty Montgomery and the aforementioned Adams. The finishing touches that could make this meal even more savory would be if Winston and Jackson hooked up for their first score as teammates. My tummy just growls at the thought…

Position Name Salary Game Info
QB Jameis Winston  $  6,300 CHI@TB 01:00PM ET
RB Marshawn Lynch  $  6,000 NYJ@OAK 04:05PM ET
RB Ty Montgomery  $  5,800 GB@ATL 08:30PM ET
WR Davante Adams  $  5,600 GB@ATL 08:30PM ET
WR Tyreek Hill  $  6,200 PHI@KC 01:00PM ET
WR DeSean Jackson/Adam Thielen/Sammy Watkins  $  4,900/5,000/5,200 Varies on choice
TE Delanie Walker  $  4,700 TEN@JAX 01:00PM ET
FLEX Leonard Fournette  $  6,500 TEN@JAX 01:00PM ET
DST Ravens  $  3,700 CLE@BAL 01:00PM ET

Here’s a preview of me watching my roast chicken lineup Sunday:

Too Cute?

Tommylee Lewis $3,000 – Explosive gadget player for Saints who like to run designed plays for Lewis a couple times a week. Just missed touchdowns twice in Monday night’s loss at Minnesota. With Willie Snead remaining out on suspension, Lewis could be more involved and makes for a sneaky play in what should be a high scoring contest in their home opener against the Pats. It’s hitting on guys like this that can vault your lineup into high place finishes in cash games.

Week 2 Picks

Started hot outta the gates with smooth 0-5 last week! That could only mean I must be due, right? Seriously though, how is it possible to guess heads or tails wrong five times in one week? Anyway, here’s this week’s recovery plan:

  1. Cowboys -2, Dak and Zek vs. Siemian and Anderson? C’mon…
  2. Redskins +2.5, I can’t live in a world where Captain Kirk is 0-2 and Jared Goff is 2-0
  3. Pats -6.5, Slurped them enough already might as well
  4. 49ers +14, Seattle’s O-line issues last week made them look like they could be vulnerable in any match-up let alone laying 14 points
  5. Steelers -6, Good home team that can put up a number on any defense playing here

Good luck in week 2! Don’t forget to like, share, and follow me on twitter and instagram @realBobbyAdcock. And make sure to check out more NFL DFS coverage from our Fantasy End Zone Experts and all things sports at Fact Fiction Fantasy.
