Sitting on the dock of bay hoping my golf lineups will pay. Nearing the end of my summer vacation in the North Woods means the 4th and final major tournament of 2017 PGA season is here, from Quail Hollow in North Carolina. Starting in 2019 this classic will be played in the month of May instead of August. This week it hits on a perfect opportunity to take advantage of the field. Especially on Draftkings, as its “Millionaire Maker” and monthly rewards contests will flood the player pool with more baseball DFS players. As always, I will also discuss Fanduel and outright value plays. The golfers that found my radar fit the keys of strong off the tee, long iron play, chipping, and major pedigree. Consider the “It’s a Major” factor as it may be more beneficial to bet a 1st round leader, top 5, or top 10 verses an outright winner on a few of these bombers.
Any player not mentioned is not an auto fade, they just didn’t make top consideration.
Hideki Matsuyama (Odds 12-1, DK 10,500, FD 8,800)- First things first, I have to tip my cap to him, what a beautiful ball striking performance last week on the tough WGC course. He can easily win back to back, I won’t miss on him this week.
Rory Mcllroy (Odds 6-1, DK 11,800, FD 8,800)- A very steep price to pay for a guy that still looks a little off. His driving ability, and phenomenal course history, including a win, makes him still a possible play.
Dustin Johnson (Odds 11-1, DK 11,400, FD 10,000)- I have been lucky enough to find the right spots for DJ. This is definitely the right spot again, he can have fun scoring on this course.
Sergio Garia (Odds 40-1, DK 9,400, FD 8,800)- He got hot Sunday at WGC, makes me think it continues or Is one major a year his limit?
Jon Rahm (Odds 22-1, DK 10,100, FD 9,200)-Let me down at the Open, and last week. Yet, I really like him this week, and could see him winning his 1st major or least top 5. If he fails, I promise I wont write him up again for a longtime.
Tony Finau (Odds 80-1, DK/FD 7,000)- My play of the week. Formerly known as a golfer for bomber courses only. This year he has been real good everywhere. Good course fit and ready to take the leap. Come Sunday I want to be singing “Tony, Tony, Tony it feels good.”
Daniel Berger (Odds 55-1, DK 7,700, FD 7,100)- Been real steady all year long. Strong closer every week, makes it easy to root for him. Will be higher owned but still useful.
Fade- Justin Spieth -Can’t keep making 50 foot puts.
Fade- Adam Scott- Different caddie, Third child on the way, understandably his mind could be elsewhere.
Leave extra salary on the table for big gpp contests. Generally at least 50% of all entries zero their lineups.
Patrick Cantlay (Odds 175-1, DK 6,900, FD 5,000)- Tough luck story with injuries, healthy, playing well. Might be ready to challenge.
Jimmy Walker (Odds 100-1, DK 6,900, FD 6,500)- Last years PGA championship winner. Led last week before finishing top 10. Says he loves this course and the changes to the greens they made. His chipping ability alone should keep him in it.
Xander Schauffle (Odds 100-1, DK 7,000, FD 6,000-) 1st year player, Too cheap every week, I play him every week.
Kevin Chappell (Odds 80-1, DK 7,000, FD 6,000)- Way too good of form to overlook.
Dylan Frittelli (Odds 350-1, DK 6,400, FD 4,900)- Youngster who has made some noise in the Euros, including a win. At these odds and prices, I say worth it.
Grayson Murray (Odds 300-1, DK 6,500, FD 4,600)- Taking a shot on a guy who is 9th in distance off the tee.
